The aim of Their Future Today is simple: to support the children of Sri Lanka from birth to adulthood.
Their work includes early intervention to prevent neglect, helping to coordinate fostering and adoption and reuniting families who have become separated.
Sadly, Sri Lanka is one of the poorest and most socially deprived areas of the world, so the team at Their Future Today are very busy.
Shalini’s story shows the real difference Their Future Today are making. Shalini’s mum had reached a desperate point: she could no longer afford to feed her three children. All she could think of to do was take them to the local police station and give them up for adoption. They hung on to her and begged her not to leave. Luckily the police called Their Future Today, who set about giving Shalini’s mum the means to support her children herself. They supplied her children with a place at their school and the books they needed, and also gave her two cows and an orange juicer, a table and an umbrella so that she could set up a roadside business. They rebuilt her mud hut so that the children no longer had to sleep on the floor. These simple, practical actions have transformed the lives of Shalini and her siblings. We are delighted to have paired up with Their Future Today to help them support more children just like Shalini, and give them a chance of a brighter future.
