GDPR is coming: what it means and why it matters
Big changes are coming in the way that your data is used by organisations.
You may already have heard of the General Data Protection Regulation, or GDPR. This new regulation comes into effect in May 2018, and will give you more control over how your data is used and how you’re contacted. It will also mean that you can better protect your personal data.
Here at The Clinic by Dr. Mayoni we are working hard to meet these strict new regulatory requirements. We regularly review our Privacy Policy, and it will be updated soon to reflect the changes due to GDPR. You can read our Privacy Policy on our website at any time, and we’ll let you know when we make changes. We will also be contacting clients so that they can let us know how they would like to be contacted in future.
GDPR is the biggest change to UK data privacy law for 20 years. It basically means that there will be one set of rules that all organisations must follow within Europe. Even companies based outside of Europe must still comply with the regulation if they collect the data of European citizens. Organisations must ensure that they are meeting the new requirements when it comes to how they look after your personal data, such as your address, email address, personal health information and so on.
We want our clients at The Clinic to rest assured that we will continue to treat all personal data professionally and according to the requirements:
- We will not share your data with any third parties
- We will respect your privacy at all times
- We will not use your personal data to send you information unless you specifically give us permission to do so
- We will use the data to make sure we provide excellent customer service
GDPR is great news for consumers because:
You have more protection
You have the right to have your data protected and your privacy respected. You will have easier access to the information that companies hold about you, and it will be easier for you to change or check this, and make sure it is up to date.
You have more control
You will be able to control if and how you want to be contacted, for example by email or phone.
You can change your mind
The new regulations also mean that companies must give you the opportunity to change your mind about the choices you have made. Here at The Clinic we will make sure that you can update your choices at any time.
Companies must take responsibility
The new GDPR rules make sure that companies protect any personal data they hold, and act appropriately if something does go wrong.
We hope you have found this post useful. We think GDPR is fantastic news for everyone, and a real step forward for consumer control.
