I’m often asked by my clients whether they can apply makeup after their treatments, which is understandable if you want to cover up redness or breakouts. Unfortunately the answer is usually no, because makeup can suffocate the skin and interfere with regeneration and healing. Standard ranges contain chemicals such as parabens, synthetic dyes and artificial fragrances – and these are not ideal, as your skin can be particularly sensitive following treatments.
The good news is that there are some products that are gentle enough for use on post-treatments skin. The one that I am happy to recommend to clients is the jane iredale® range.
I am not easily impressed by big claims, so I admit I had my skeptical hat on when I first tried out the range – but it totally won me over. The entire range was developed with skin care in mind, containing ingredients designed to condition, moisturise and protect the skin.
The key difference with the jane iredale range is that it is mineral makeup. What does that mean – and why does it matter? Basically, the range gives really good coverage while (and this is the crucial bit!) not blocking pores. There is a scientific word for this – non-comedogenic – but essentially it means that the make-up allows your skin to breath and function normally.
Traditional makeup can be as much as 90% fillers, like talcum powder, which coat the skin to achieve concealing effects. The mineral powder used in jane iredale products reflects the light a little like frosted glass, giving a soft focus effect. This means you get great coverage without having to apply a thick layer.

One of my favourite products from the range is the foundation. Available in five different types to suit all skin tones, and ranging from SPF15 to SPF25, you can choose one that exactly suits your needs. The cosmetic bases act as a four-in-one product – concealer, foundation, powder and sunscreen – so there is no need for separate foundation and powder. It is also great for problems like acne, rosacea, thread veins and hyperpigmentation.
I am happy to recommend it to clients because I’m sure that once they try it, they will love it too. Prices and details will be available soon on my website, and products can be bought through me after a consultation. Please contact me if you would like to find out more.
