Good news: the Professional Standards Authority (PSA) for Health and Social Care has accredited Save Face!
And why is this good news, I hear you ask?! Save Face is a register to help consumers search, compare and rate aesthetic practitioners. The register gives you reassurance that we have all been assessed against a stringent set of standards.
The PSA oversees all nine statutory bodies that regulate health and social care professionals in the UK. The Government set up the accredited registers programme to improve standards and safety for the public. It provides assurance that those on the registers meet high standards in practice.
Achieving accreditation means that Save Face meets the PSA’s tough standards in six key areas: governance, setting standards, education and training, managing the register, providing information and complaints handling. It is a real mark of quality.
I have been on the Save Face register since April 2015, and think it is an invaluable tool for my clients. The cosmetic procedures industry is almost entirely unregulated, so I’m proud to be able to say that I am on a register accredited by the PSA. I am committed to high professional standards, and welcome all additional protection for consumers – the recent new Guidelines from the General Medical Council being a good case in point.
As an accredited register, Save Face is now officially recognised by The Department of Health, NHS England and the government, among others. This is great news both for consumers and for the trained aesthetic practice professionals on the register – it empowers consumers to differentiate us from less scrupulous operators.
The PSA accreditation also means that aesthetic practice is now recognised as a healthcare service in the UK, distinct from the wider beauty industry. You can read my Save Face profile here to find out how it works.
Chief executive of the PSA, Harry Cayton said, “The programme offers a new layer of protection for people receiving health services, and gives non-surgical cosmetic practitioners the opportunity to demonstrate their commitment to good practice.”
